The question many people have about the whole process is whether or not the end result will really be profitable considering the time and effort that is required to implement the strategy.

This question has been difficult to answer, in large part, because of the Google Terms of Service for Adsense users. Although the terms have recently been loosened somewhat, users were long prohibited from sharing personal information regarding their success levels and other key statistics that might have provided prospective for-profit bloggers from developing a clear perspective on the profit potential available.

Fourth, investigate the average value of an ad click in your niche. You can use the Overture bid tool, easily found online, to get a reasonable idea of the value of each click. In order to make your projection “safe,” reduce that number by half. This yields PPC, or “pay per click.” Let’s say the bid tool says clicks related to our keyword are worth about fifty cents. Our PPC is .25.

Fifth, determine how much your time is worth. Do you feel your blogging time should generate at least $10 per hour? $20? This is a matter of personal preference. We will term the resulting variable DR for “desired rate.” We will assess the value of our time at $15 per hour for this exercise.

Sixth, assume a click-through rate of five percent. This is a low figure, as many blogs can generate click-through rates approximating 25%. Click-through rate is expressed as CTR.

Now it’s time to perform the critical calculation. One needs to determine the required number of visitors necessary to produce enough money to make process worthwhile. If we express that number as V, the equation will look something like this:

V x PPC x CTR = DR x TT

This translates to:

V x .25 x .05 = 15 x 116

Or
V x .0125 = 1740

Thus, V must be 139,200. In order to make the process pay, you will have to drive 139,200 visitors to the blog over the course of one year. That translates to approximately 391 visitors per day, on average. Obviously, that is a very “doable” number based on the amount of time we have set aside for the process.

So, for our example, blogging for bucks with Adsense is a winner.

Perform these calculations based on your unique circumstances and you can determine the viability of earning money with a blog and Adsense.

it on your site. Link it to your RSS Feed url - this is your
atom.xml link if you’re using Blogger.

feed to their MyYahoo. Each time a subscriber opens their
MyYahoo site; your RSS Feed will be updated.

You can also add ‘MyMsn’ and ‘Bloglines’ buttons on your site.

3. How do I place MSN Search Results Directly on My Site?

search. You can now place RSS search results directly onto
your website. It can enrich your site with daily updated content.

And it’s quite simple to use; just add “&format=rss” at the end of the
URL in your MSN search engine query. For example, to get an RSS Feed for
‘tsunami relief’ you would use this url: http://beta.search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=tsunami+relief&format=rss

4. How do I place Yahoo Results on my site?

In Yahoo the URL would be slightly different:

or phrase of your choice to suit your website’s content.

Sometimes your PC will start acting strange for no apparent reason or a program
which you use regularly will all of a sudden stop working as it should. This

1. Don’t assume that your problem is unique. The chances are that someone else
has had that problem and it has already been solved. Google is a great place
for getting technical support help believe it or not. You may have to
experiment with wording your problem and refining your search, but it’s worth a
try. For example my Outlook email client stopped showing me the ‘Subject’ field
when I was composing new email. As a result all of my email was going out
without a subject. After a bit of experimenting with wording the problem I
found the answer by searching on the phrase “Outlook subject field missing”.
Someone in an online discussion group had the same problem and the answer was
provided. When you find good discussions groups bookmark them for future use. I
have a bookmark I call Technical Support Help and it’s full of great web sites.

2. The Google trick is good for lots of software but you should always try the
web site of the program’s manufacturer as well. Sometimes your problem is
really a bug and there may be a new release or work around available. Many
software web sites have FAQs, discussion lists, and help desks available that
provide free support. Sometimes there is a telephone number that you can call
but you may have to pay for live help.

3. There are companies that offer free general help for simple questions and
then charge a sliding scale for more complicated ones. Support Freaks (www.supportfreaks.com) is a good one to try. Even if you have to pay, the rates are reasonable. Click on the “Freebies” link, under the “Quick Links” menu to see if your question is eligible for free help.

4. There are probably any number of local PC support groups that meet in
libraries and other locations near your home. Some of these groups are very
specific in nature and some are general. Try searching Google for “PC Support
Group” or “PC User group” and the name of your town. Also check with your local
librarian and computer stores. They often know of these groups.

5. Speaking of computer stores, you can often pick the brains of the more
knowledgeable salespeople if you are lucky enough to find any. Many times these
employees love computers so much that they will act as your big brother or
sister if you need some quick help. Sometimes they moonlight as consultants at
a good rate.

This ought to be enough information to get you started on the road to solving
your next PC or software problem. If you are having Internet connectivity
problems then your ISP is the first place to start. If you can’t get online at
all, and you don’t think you know their phone number, think again. I’ll bet
that it’s printed on every bill that they send you. You’ll also need your
