The Process regarding the Sending Christian Assembly
Sent church is definitely a trendy title that is everywhere these days. the notion that we need to label places of worship, missional, has forever been a tiny bit strange to me. come on, shouldnt all churches be missional in their very core? it should be expected from a church, at its very core, want to connect their culture and area with the good news as a missionary would in a different country? Isnt this what the church buildings is commanded to do in the great commission in Matthew 28:19? Our own local area needs this type of church. North Austin church is slowly gravitating to what Jesus instructed in the Gospels.
Jesus gives the charge in Acts 1:8 saying, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 exemplifies this topic as, right before Jesus Christ ascends to Heaven, He commissions the disciples on a journey that would initiate right in their individual community. He begins with their area of Jerusalem, and then enlarges the call to the many parts of the creation.
As Christians, we are not called to isolation, but to be missional people who are anxiously going out and going to areas right where they are with the message of Jesus. We have seen this throughout history: God motivated Abraham on a mission to move from his city and his people and go to the town that God would show him (Gen. 12:1), God sends Moses on a exploration to renew an enslaved people and lead them to joy (Exodus 3:8-10), God sends Jesus on a mission to earth to bring back all things to Himself through the blood of Christ (Colossians 1:20). And now God is sending people on a story to engage communities, cities, tribes, and even nations with the story of Christ(Matt. 28:19 Mark 6:7 Luke 10:1 John 20:21 Acts 1:8). If we abandon this call and continue to see the places of worship like a members only country club ” requesting that people fix their performance, pay their money, and come to our sanctuary God will continue His exploration without us.
