Kanye West Absented from Music Videos Award
Kanye West, nominated for nine BET music videos Award, was absent from this year’s show.
When Taylor Swift approached the stage on the night of the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), Kanye West swept in to steal the show. Grabbing the microphone out of her hands, he told the crowd, “I’m sorry, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.” Ouch.
After his public rant on the unsuspecting Swift, he later apologized telling the public of his plan to take some time out of the lime light. Many doubted the star’s sincerity. But when it was his turn for some recognition, he was not there.
At Saturday’s 4th annual BET Awards, Kanye was nominated for nine awards, among them best live performer. But when show time came around, the rapper was nowhere to be found.
Also absent from the celebration was T.I., who is currently in an Arkansas prison under federal weapons charges. T.I. was nominated for six awards and walked away the recipient of two, including Album of the Year.
In the aftermath of his interruption of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the VMAs last month, Kanye West told Jay Leno that he planned to take some time off.
And in the weeks since that statement, his Fame Kills Tour with Lady Gaga was canceled, he didn’t appear this weekend at the 2009 BET Hip-Hop Awards, and he’s been relatively quiet as his latest protégé, Kid Cudi, promotes his recently released debut album.
Kanye has been posting his usual photos of things he’s interested in on his blog, but apart from a post about Derrion Albert’s murder in Chicago and one about Nabil Elderkin’s forthcoming photo book of Kanye’s Glow in the Dark Tour, he hasn’t spoken much there, either.
